The feared increase in Covid-19 cases following Christmas hasn’t happened, although the two-week incubation period after New Year’s hasn’t passed yet.
The 14-day positivity rate for Covid-19 testing in Greene County is 5.8 percent as of Tuesday morning, Jan. 12, according to Greene County public health director Becky Wolf.
The total number of Covid-19 cases in the county is 693. There has been one new case in the last 24 hours, three in the last three days, 14 in the last seven days, and 34 new cases in the last 14 days. Of the total, 92 are active cases.
Wolf again asked that any healthcare workers who have not received the first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine and want to receive it call Greene County public health at 515-386-0564 to make an appointment.
The county cannot move to the next tier in vaccinating essential workers until all healthcare workers and long term care residents who want the vaccine have received it.
Wolf reminds the public that it takes 2-14 days following the last contact with an infected person to develop symptoms. “If you develop fever/chills, headache, body aches, fatigue, sore throat, running or stuffy nose, cough, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or loss of sense of taste or smell, please isolate yourself from other household members, using a separate bathroom, if possible,” she said.
She also asked persons to wait until at least 48 hours after the onset of symptoms to seek testing.
The public health Covid hotline, 515-386-0564, is available Monday-Friday, from 8 am to 4:30 pm.
